This poetry performance was written and directed by Pankayamanalan and staged at a university auditorium with the participation of students from a London university.
The work, based on traditional poetic forms, was a heartfelt and moving piece that brought to life the brutal attacks, injustices, loss of life, and the hardships and pain that the people in the homeland experienced during a period of genocide. The university students, including Jeyaharan, Sankari, and Sivakumar, participated and acted in the play.
In Tamil literature, the four major land divisions are Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, and Neithal. This play was born from the author’s thoughts, combining the desert and the boat, to portray a sorrowful history of a fragmented Tamil nation traveling through a fifth land, the “separation.”
