This play was written by writer Pulavar Sivanathan (Pankayamanalan) at the request of the members of a senior citizens’ group run by the Tamil Information Centre in Kingston. Due to other commitments, the author was unable to direct the play, so the acting troupe themselves took on the direction and staged the production.
This realistic play focuses on the challenges and struggles faced by some Sri Lankan Tamils who left their homeland and migrated to distant lands during the peak of state terrorism and military occupation. Having abandoned their own houses, properties, and land during the military invasion, they now wish to return to their homes in their old age. The play centres on the emotional turmoil and obstacles they face when they realize the properties they left behind for their heirs, like the ‘Muthusom’ and Theddam’ (a type of ancestral property), have been squandered.
This play was staged for a second time as part of the Muththamilaram event of the Tamil community, with the direction of and the acting of talented artists from the Tamil community.
