This work is a reflection of a time when the Sri Lankan Tamil community came to a crucial conclusion. For generations, they had suffered from the atrocities of Sinhala majoritarian politics, state-sponsored violence, military intimidation, and massacres. They came to the conclusion that the only way to protect themselves, their relatives, and their descendants was to leave their homeland.
In this context, the writer Pulavar Sivanathan (Pankayamanalan) crafted, directed, and staged this work with the perspective that the flights a Sri Lankan Tamil man or woman takes to a foreign country are not just a mode of transport but a divine guardian, offering them liberation. This work is known as “Liberation Flights.”
